Towson (19-11 SU, 11-6 CAA) and UNCW (22-8 SU, 12-5 CAA) meet up at Trask Coliseum in Wilmington, N.C. in matchup for the third seed in the CAA Tournament at 7pmET.
The tournament will start next Friday in Washington D.C. with the play-in game and both teams have earned a first-round bye, so they will not play until Sunday. This is the first meeting of the season as last year, both teams won on the road.
The CAA didn't do Towson a lot of favors by scheduling them on the road in four of their last six games, including games against Hofstra, Charleston and UNCW. Those are the three teams ahead of Towson in the CAA standings. But at some point, you have to come away with wins in those games and Towson has struggled on the road lately, as they have lost four straight games, including an 83-75 defeat at Charleston on Thursday night. Senior guard Nicolas Timberlake led the way with a career-high 34 points, but received very little help. The Tigers led pretty deep into the second half, but fell apart thanks to 16 turnovers and a 14-of-24 mark from the line. Timberlake shot 11-of-17 from the field but senior Cam Holden, Charles Thompson and Nygal Russell were a combined 6-of-19 from the field.

In the CAA and overall, Towson has shot the ball well, making 44.6% of their shots to rank second overall and held opponents to just 42.4% (2nd). They lead the league in three-point shooting (37.6%), but rank 8th in defending the three-ball (34.2%). Their Achilles' heel this season has been turnovers as they rank ninth in turnover margin (-0.17), averaging 11.93 turnovers per game. One of their biggest strengths is on the boards, where they rank 2nd in rebounding margin (+5.50).
Timberlake ranks third in the CAA in scoring with 17.9 points per game on 42.8% from three-point range. Cam Holden ranks 12th in scoring with 13.9 points per game and leads the league in assists with 4.9 per game.
