When it comes to defense and rebounding, Towson is top-notch. They rank 179th in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency and 174th overall according to KenPom. They are also ranked 10th in the country in rebounding margin at +11.8. But that has translated to mediocrity in their non-conference matchups. In their last Division I game, they did beat Nicholls at home 65-55 on Dec. 22, before facing non-DI Arcadia (97-46 win) on Dec. 30. The Tigers fell in a neutral site against Bryant in their last game away from home on Dec. 16 in double overtime.
Towson is led by sophomore wing Christian May, who averages 12.1 points per game and 4.3 rebounds on 40.6% shooting (37% 3pt). Freshman Tyler Tejada, a New Jersey native, adds 11.2 points on 41.5% shooting (28.9% 3pt). But the Tigers never really replaced shooting guard Nicolas Timberlake (17.7ppg), who transferred to Kansas. They are shooting just 41.8% (302nd) from t he field and 31% (286th) from 3-point range. They also rank 352nd in free throw shooting at 62.5% and 67.8 points per game (320th). Defensively, they are allowing teams to shoot 43.6% from the field (225th) and 33.7% (239th) from long range. The hope is that 6-3 senior transfer guard Nendah Tarke from Coppin State, who will be playing in his fourth game, will help improve some of the defensive issues.
