It’s a battle of teams from the Eastern Conference on the ice in the Big Apple as they look to pick up two points in the standings. The Toronto Maple Leafs are on the road as they take on the New York Rangers Tuesday night. Toronto was in action on Monday night as they took on the Islanders on the road. The Maple Leafs blanked Nashville 4-0 at home in their previous game Saturday night. New York was in action at home against the Kings Sunday night in the second game of a back-to-back set and picked up a 4-1 victory. In the last 10 meetings, the Rangers own a 6-3-1 advantage but the Maple Leafs have won the last two meetings. That includes a 3-2 road win in the most recent meeting on April 13, 2023.

Toronto was in action on the road as they traveled to Long Island to face off with the Islanders in the front game of a back-to-back that concludes here. The Maple Leafs improved to 14-6-4 on the season and stood tied for third in the Atlantic Division, seven points behind Boston for the top spot. Toronto entered Monday 9th in the league in goals per game as they average 3.33 goals per contest. The Maple Leafs are 17th in goals against as they have allowed 3.17 goals per contest. Toronto is ninth in the league in power play success as they are converting on 23.6% of their chances with the man advantage. The Maple Leafs are 16th in the league in the penalty killing department as they successfully get through 80.5% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Nashville, Toronto was solid in their own end, got quality goaltending and saw their superstar provide some offensive firepower to earn the win Saturday night. The Maple Leafs held a 9-7 edge in shots in the opening period with neither team scoring, leaving the game scoreless at the first intermission. In the second period, Toronto held a 13-6 shot advantage and outscored Nashville 2-0 to hold a lead by that margin after 40 minutes. David Kampf opened the scoring with his third goal of the season at 14:15 off an assist from Conor Timmins. Later in the period, Auston Matthews scored his 17th of the year at 17:57 off assists from William Nylander and Morgan Rielly to make it a 2-0 game. In the third period, Toronto held a 15-5 shot advantage and outscored the Predators 2-0 to put the game away. Matthews scored his second of the night and 18th of the year at 16:49, on the power play, off assists from Nylander and John Tavares for a 3-0 lead. Noah Gregor closed the scoring with his fourth goal of the season, into an empty net, at 18:29 off an assist from Calle Jarnk rok. Ilya Samsonov made 18 saves for the Maple Leafs, who held a 37-18 shot advantage, in the shutout win. Martin Jones is slated to get the start here with Samsonov facing the Islanders Monday and Joseph Woll on the injured list.
