The Toronto Blue Jays (73-61, 3rd AL East) visit the thin air of Mile High City on Friday to begin a three-game interleague series against the Colorado Rockies (49-84, 5th NL West) at Coors Field. Toronto defeated the Washington Nationals 7-0 on Wednesday and is third in the American League East, 10 ½ games behind first place and the Blue Jays are 2 ½ games behind the third and final spot in the AL wildcard race. Colorado was defeated by Atlanta 7-3 on Wednesday and the Rockies have lost three straight and nine of the last ten. Colorado is on the verge of being eliminated from playoff contention. Toronto will play without four pitchers as well as position players Bo Bichette, Matt Chapman and Otto Lopez. Colorado will play without eight pitchers as we ll as position player Kris Bryant.

Thanks to strong performances on the mound and solid production at the plate, Toronto continues to be in the hunt for a postseason berth as the MLB season enters its final month. On the mound, Toronto is second in team ERA at 3.69, sixth in both WHIP at 1.23 and batting average allowed at .238 and 7th in Quality Starts with 59. Hyun Jin Ryu gets the nod on the mound Friday. The lefthander is 3-1 with an ERA of 2.25 and 20 strikeouts.

 

Although Toronto has been slowed down a bit with injuries to keep players such as Bo Bichette and Matt Chapman, the Blue Jays continue to produce at the plate. Toronto is sixth in team batting average at .258, eighth in on base percentage at .329 and 14th in both slugging percentage at .417 and runs scored with 603. Vladimir Guerrero Jr is the team leader in home runs with 20 and in RBI was 79. With Bo Bichette injured, second in home runs is George Springer with 17 and 2nd and RBI is Whit Merrifield with 58. Toronto has hit 238 doubles, 11 triples and 156 home runs in 134 games.
