Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 7-22-2022

This Friday the (50-43) Toronto Blue Jays and the (48-45) Boston Red Sox will play game one of this three-game series. The first pitch will be thrown out at 7:10 PM EST inside Fenway Park. This will also be the fourth series between these two teams this regular season. The Blue Jays have won the first three and they will be looking to make it four, as they have had the Red Sox number. This will be both teams' first series of the second half of the season.

The Toronto Blue Jays are coming into this one after winning their previous series against the Kansas City Royals. They looked great on both sides of the field, as they were hitting great and shutting down the Royals when they were at the plate. They will need to continue their play in this one if they want to challenge the Red Sox on the road.

The Boston Red Sox are coming into their first series of the second half of the season, after los ing to the Yankees before the All-Star Break. They struggled at the plate in the final two games of that series, as they only scored three combined runs in the final two games.

This game was written/published before last night's results.

The Toronto Blue Jays had a solid first half of the season, but now they will be attempting to turn it on. They were (5-5) coming into the All-Star break, but they recently fired their manager, which has provided the team with a spark. Toronto is also in third place in the AL East, as they are still 14.5 games out of first place. At the plate, the Blue Jays are scoring 4.66 runs per game and hitting .262 as a team. This is the ninth most runs scored per game and the second highest overall team batting average. They have shown that they can consistently reach base safely, as they are all making contact with the ball and getting on base. Toronto has also shown that they aren't one-dimensional at the plate. They can score multiple different ways, as they can string together hits or clear the bases with one big swing. They are hitting 1.30 home runs per game, which is the eighth most in the league. The Blue Jays have been very tough to stop , as they will do whatever it takes to score. I expect them to stay unaggressive once they have reached base safely, as they have stolen the 22nd least amount of bases this season. They trust their bats, as they don't feel the need to risk losing any base runners. Their batting lineup has been too consistent not to trust them.

In the field, the Blue Jays have also been great this season. They have the ninth best overall fielding percentage, as they are making .987% of their plays. They are sure-handed and they always know where to go to get the nearest out. Toronto has also only committed 43 fielding errors this season, which is the ninth least in the league. Most of their problems come from their pitching when they are on the defensive side of the field, as they are allowing the 18th most runs per game.

According to MLB.com, the Toronto Blue Jays will start Kevin Gausman on the mound. He has started this season (6-7) with a 2.87 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. He has also been a beast on the road, as his ERA drops to 2.00. He looked great in two of his three last starts, as well. The last time he was on the mound he pitched for 6.0 innings and only allowed two earned runs. He will be looking to go deep into this game.
