College Basketball pick today: Michigan Wolverines +3.5 over Northwestern Wildcats (-115), 7:00 pm ET
Michigan is the recommended side in this game, as they match up well with Northwestern. Northwestern's defense hasn't been quite as good in conference play as it was in the nonconference season. The Wildcats rank just 10th in the Big Ten in KenPom's adjusted defensive efficiency metric, but they still have been great at forcing turnovers, which they do at the highest rate in the conference.
Despite Northwestern’s ability to force turnovers, Michigan is excellent at protecting the ball. The Wolverines rank sixth in the entire country in offensive turnover rate. If Michigan can take good care of the ball, they should be able to score on the Wildcat defense. For that reason, backing Michigan to cover will be the play.
