The Longhorns are listed as 14.5-point road favorites with a total of 52.0 points. They are searching for their first victory at McLane Stadium since 2017 when Texas trounced Baylor 38-7. Last year, the Longhorns defeated the Bears 38-27 as 10-point home favorites.
The No. 3 Texas Longhorns successfully built on their Week 2 road victory over then-No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide 34-24, beating the Wyoming Cowboys 31-10 this past Saturday. The Longhorns failed to cover a huge 30.5-point spread against the resilient Wyoming team, but it was a much taller task than the bookies had anticipated.
The clash between Texas and Wyoming was tied at 10-10 at the end of the third quarter. The Cowboys held the ball in possession for 38:47 and held the Longhorns to 316 total yards. Texas yielded 291 total yards in return while giving up just 4.9 yards per pass.
“We had a lot of sore backs from people patting us on the back and congratulating us,“ Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said. “It’s human nature to get distracted by that and you lose sight of what’s right in front of you.”
Sophomore running back Jonathon Brooks led the way for the Longhorns last Saturday. He had 21 carries for a staggering 164 yards, and Brooks is now averaging 5.8 yards per rush in 2023. Sophomore signal-caller Quinn Ewers completed just 11 of his 21 passing attempts against Wyoming, throwing for 131 yards and a couple of touchdowns, and he also scored once on his own.
