The Texas Rangers (52-37, 1st AL West) will conclude a three-game interleague series in the nation's capital on Sunday when visiting Nationals Park to play the Washington Nationals (34-54, 5th NL East) in the last game before the Major League Baseball All-Star Game break. Texas defeated Washington 7-2 on Friday in the 1st of three games. Texas holds a three-game lead in the American League West. Washington lost its 5th straight when falling on Friday to the Rangers and are 25 ½ games behind first place in the National League East. Texas will play without four pitchers, while Washington will play without five pitchers as well as position players Israel Pineda and Victor Robles.

Texas is first in three major hitting categories and second in a fourth. Texas is first in team batting average with .275, in on base percentage with .342 and it runs scored with 526 for an average of 5.91 runs per game. Adolis Garcia has 23 home runs to lead Houston, while Josh Jung is second with 17. Texas has seven players with 10 home runs or more. The leader in RBIs is Garcia with 73, which also leads baseball and Jonah Heim is second with 59. Texas has hit 202 doubles, nine triples and 122 home runs in 89 games.

 

On the mound, Texas is not as strong as at the plate but is better than most. Texas is in the top 10 in four major pitching categories. The Rangers are third in WHIP at 1.20, 4th in batting average allowed with .236, 5th in Quality Starts with 41 and 10th in team ERA at 3 .93. Nathan Eovaldi is leading Texas in victories with 10 and strikeouts with 109. Texas will hand the ball to Dane Dunning on Sunday. This season the right-hander is 8-1 with an ERA of 2.61 and 55 strikeouts.
