The 2022 season has been an abject failure for the Texas Rangers. After spending a significant amount of money this offseason, the Rangers had high hopes to be a threat in the AL West this season. Unfortunately, a slow start from the Rangers' bats followed by inconsistent pitching led to the firing of the team's manager and a second division record. The Rangers were able to salvage the final game of their three-game series on Sunday with a 4-1 win behind another strong start from Martin Perez. Perez, one of the team's surprising free-agent success stories this season, improved to 11-6 on the season with a 2.77 ERA.

“I’m not thinking about numbers, I’m not thinking about ‘Win the game by myself.” Perez said. “I’m just thinking ‘Win the game as a teammate.’”

The Rangers pitching has really gone south over the last 15 games with the team's ERA sitting at 5.56 over that span. They've had just two quality starts over that span, both by Perez. On Monday afternoon, the Rangers will turn to right-hander Glenn Otto to try and pick up a road win. In his last five starts, Otto has gone 2-0 with an ERA of 3.51. Otto only strikes out 6.3 per nine innings so he will rely on his defense behind him to take care of business. He has allowed 15 home runs on the season thus far in 22 starts.
