Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 7-31-2022

The Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels will wrap up their weekend series on Sunday afternoon in Anaheim. The two teams are battling it out for the third and fourth spots in the AL West Division with both teams far out of the playoff picture at the moment. On the mound on Sunday will be righty Dane Dunnings (1-6, 4.38) of the Rangers taking on Angels' lefty Reid Detmers (3-3, 3.84). Game time is set for 410pm EST.

After spending the offseason improving their starting pitching staff and strengthening the team up the middle, it is unlikely that the Rangers will be very active at the trade deadline. The Rangers are far removed from the playoff picture but will unlikely unload the assets they just added to their squad to make them competitive in the very near future. Heading into Saturday's game, the Rangers have gone just 12-18 in their past 30 games but remain comfortably in front of the Angels in third place. On Saturday, Marcus Semien hit his 14th home run and catcher Meibrys Viloria hit his first of the season to lead the Rangers to victory.

The Rangers have added some quality pitching pieces this past offseason that have provided stability for a staff that lacked it in 2021. Free-agent signings Martin Perez and Jon Gray have combined to go 16-7 on the season and have given the Rangers 21 quality starts between them. Both came to Texas at relatively cheap prices so it would be unlikely that the Rangers look to move on from either starter at the deadline. On the mound in the series finale of this series will be Dane Dunning. Dunning has won just one game in 19 starts this season but has given the Rangers seven quality starts so far this season. He is third on the team in innings pitched and strikeouts this season. In July, Dunning does not have a decision in three starts but has an inflated ERA of 6.19 and has only pitched 12.2 innings in those three starts while giving up 17 hits.
