Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-7-2022

The losses keep mounting for the Texas Rangers but they'll look to end this series on a high note as they face the Houston Astros in the final game of a three game series Wednesday. The Astros lead the American League West have plummeted to fourth place in the division.  Cristian Javier (8-9) gets the start for the Astros while Cole Ragans (0-2) takes the mound for the Rangers. First pitch is at 8:10 p.m. at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

The Texas Rangers got a great pitching performance out of Martin Perez, but still managed to lose in the opening game of this series on Monday. Perez gave up just 1 run on 6 hits in 6 innings with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk but he got 0 run support and suffered the defeat as Houston won 1-0.  The Rangers only scratched out 3 hits in the game, and that won't win many ball games. The results of Tuesday night's game were not available at the time of publication.

Texas averages 4.52 runs per game, which ranks 10th in league. They are 15th in team batting average, 8th in home runs, and 12th in slugging percentage. Nathaniel Lowe leads the Rangers batting .305 with 23 home runs and 67 RBI while Corey Seager is hitting .253 with 29 home runs and 72 RBI. The Rangers have not yet named a starter for Wednesday's series finale. This would be the spot where Dallas Keuchel has taken his turn, but Keuchel has been so brutal in his two Texas starts that he has been released. In his place, lefthander Cole Ragans was called up and he'll get the start. He is 0-2 on the season with a 4.42 ERA in 4 starts. The Rangers have a team ERA of 4.16, which is 21st in baseball. The bullpen has an ERA of 3.74, which is 13th best in baseball.
