Texas Rangers vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-25-2023

The first game of this series delivered, as the Cincinnati Reds (8-15) stormed back from an early four-run deficit to walk off the Texas Rangers (14-8) by a final score of 7-6. Cincinnati desperately needed the win, so it was extra sweet to take it in the bottom of the ninth. This series is the first between these clubs since 2019, and the Reds can take it with a win in game two. It's slated for Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. EST, with Great American Ball Park opening its doors yet again.

Nathan Eovaldi departed Monday after 6.0 innings, with the Rangers leading 6-4. Jose Leclerc entered the game with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth, spelling Dane Dunning who had pitched the previous 1.2 innings. Leclerc walked the next two batters which tied the game before recording an out. He opened the ninth with a walk before getting pulled. Will Smith entered, a passed ball put the tying run at second, and a single ended their night. Six early runs were wasted.

Lefty Martin Perez will try to get Texas back on track when he starts this game. 2022 was a career year for Perez, who earned his first All-Star nod at 31 years old and after 11 years in the majors. He's been fine so far this year, allowing three or fewer in each start. H e hasn't pitched six full innings yet though. Considering what the bullpen accomplished last night, the Rangers may need some length. Funnily enough, Texas' relievers entered Monday night fourth in WAR and second in ERA.

If I'm a Rangers hitter, I'm not looking to change much. Since April 16, Texas has scored 70 runs in eight games, putting up at least four runs in each contest. Outside of stolen bases, the top 10 in most offensive statistics will contain the Texas Rangers. Their numbers dip a bit on the road, but they're still impressive.
