A pair of teams battling near the top of the SEC take to the hardwood in search of a victory in the Lone Star State. The #11 Tennessee Volunteers are on the road as they travel to face the #25 Texas A&M Aggies Tuesday night. Tennessee was dropped 66-54 on the road by Kentucky in their previous contest, losing outright as a 1.5-point favorite, Saturday afternoon. Texas A&M went on the road and took down Missouri 69-60 Saturday in their previous game, winning outright as a 2.5-point underdog. In the all-time series between the teams, the Volunteers own an 11-6 advantage and have won the last three matchups. That includes a 65-50 win in the most recent meeting, which came in the title game of the SEC Tournament on March 13, 2022.

Tennessee lost for the fourth time in six games as they were taken down by Kentucky on the road Saturday afternoon in their previous game. The Volunteers fell to 20-7 overall and stand tied for third in the SEC with a 9-5 conference mark, leaving them four games back of Alabama for the top spot. Against Kentucky, Tennessee never got their offense untracked and it proved to be their undoing. The Volunteers were down 10-2 early and trailed by 20 at the half, creating a hole that was too deep to dig out of. Tennessee got no closer than eight in the second half and scored just four points over the final 7:25 to ensure their defeat. The Volunteers shot 37.3% from the field, including six of 27 from three-point range, and were a putrid four of 14 at the charity stripe in the loss. Santiago Vescovi led Tennessee with 17 points in the loss.

The Volunteers put up 71.7 points per game on the season, leaving t hem 173rd in the nation in scoring offense. Tennessee pulls down 39.6 rebounds a night (11th) while dishing out 16.6 assists (16th) per game. The Volunteers are excellent on the defensive end, ranking 3rd in the country by allowing 56.7 points per game. Santiago Vescovi is one of three players on the team averaging in double figures with 12.5 points plus 4.4 rebounds a night this season. Tyreke Key (8.3 points, 2.7 rebounds) and Zakai Ziegler (10.8 points, 2.9 boards, 5.4 assists) are good options offensively as well. Olivier Nkamhoua (10.5 points, five boards), Josiah-Jordan James (9.5 points, 5.3 rebounds), Julian Phillips (nine points, 4.8 rebounds), Jahmai Mashack, Jonas Aidoo and Tobe Awaka have to step up and help out on both ends of the floor for coach Rick Barnes. Tennessee shoots 42.8% from the field as a team this season. The Volunteers knock down 7.6 triples a night while shooting 32.2% from beyond the arc. Tennessee knocks down 71.5% of their attempts at the charity stripe this season, which puts them in the middle of the pack.

James (ankle) has missed the last four games while Phillips (hip) has missed two straight contests. Both are considered questionable for this contest so watch out for updates on their statuses for this contest.
