The Akron Zips (1-1) visit the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers (2-0) at Neyland Stadium on Saturday, September 17, 2022.
In their last game, the Volunteers beat the Pittsburgh Panthers 34-27. The Zips’ last outing finished in a 52-0 loss to the Michigan State Spartans. Against the Panthers, Hendon Hooker led the Vols with 325 yards on 27-of-42 passing (64.3%) for two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also carried the ball 15 times for 27 yards. Jaylen Wright totaled 47 rushing yards on nine carries (5.2 yards per carry). Cedric Tillman had nine receptions for 162 yards (18.0 per catch) and one touchdown against the Panthers. DJ Iron threw for 123 yards for the Zips against the Spartans, going 9-for-13 (69.2%) with no touchdowns and no interceptions. He added seven carries for 30 yards. Cam Wiley carried the ball 10 times for 30 yards. He caught one pass for 12 yards. Daniel George caught four passes on five targets for 44 yards (11.0 yards per reception).
The Volunteers are favorites (-47.5) in a projected lopsided matchup against the Zips. The total is set at 65.5 points.
