Tennessee Volunteers at Vanderbilt Commodores – 2/8/23 College Basketball Picks and Prediction

The Tennessee Volunteers will make the three-hour trip to Nashville to face the Vanderbilt Commodores in SEC play from the Memorial Gym. Tennessee leads the all-time series, 91-65, after winning eleven straight meetings.

Tennessee fell to 18-4 after losing to Florida in Gainesville. The Volunteers were outscored by the Gators in both halves, and dealt their biggest loss of the season, 67-54. Tennessee is scoring 72.3 points per game, while allowing 54.6 ppg, and shooting 43.1% from the floor.

Tennessee responded to the loss to Florida by taking down Auburn last weekend, and they’ll look to nail down win number 20 here against their in-state foes. The Vols are 8-2 in SEC play, while posting a 11-1 home record. Tennessee represents one of the best defensive units in the nation, and they play collectively offensively. Veteran guard Santiago Vescovi scored a team-high 15 points in the first matchup over Vandy, and he leads the team in scoring (11.9). Zakai Ziegler’s role has grown in the backcourt over the past month, and after posting double-doubles in wins over Texas and LSU, he’s averaging 11.1 ppg and a team-lead 5.1 apg. Four-year starter Josiah-Jordan James grabbed a career-high 14 boards against Auburn last time out, and he’s now up leading the Vols in rebounding (5.3), while scoring 10.1 ppg.
