Tennessee at Texas A&M Prediction – Basketball Picks 2/21/23

The Tennessee Volunteers will head down to College Station to take on the Texas A&M Aggies in SEC play from the Reed Arena on ESPN. Tennessee leads the head-to-head series, 11-6, after winning six of the last seven meetings, including last year's SEC Tournament Final.

Tennessee dropped to 20-7 after losing to Kentucky in Lexington. The Volunteers trailed the Wildcats big at the break, and they ended up falling by twelve points, 66-54. Tennessee is scoring 71.7 points per game, while allowing 56.7 ppg, and shooting 42.8% from the floor.

Tennessee has dropped four of their last six games, and they have to avoid any further spiral if they’d still like to land a top seed in the Dance. Two of the four defeats have come by a single point, and fittingly one of the wins during the stretch was over top-ranked Alabama, so there’s no reason to right them off just yet. The Vols are 9-5 in SEC play, while posting a 12-2 home record. Tennessee still represents one of the best defensive units in the nation, and it remains a collective effort on the offensive end. Veteran guard Santiago Vescovi has scored 15 points or more in each of the last three games, and he leads the team in scoring (12.5). Sophomore guard Zakai Ziegler double-doubled versus Mizzou, he’s averaging 10.8 ppg and a team-lead 5.4 apg. The absence of four-year starter Josiah-Jordan James has been felt over the past three games, and his status will need to be monitored for this clash atop the conference.
