Temple Owls (2-2) vs. Memphis Tigers (3-1)

Week 5 of the 2022 college football season continues Saturday, October 1, with the American Athletic Conference showdown from Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee, so we bring you the best Owls vs. Tigers betting pick and odds.

Temple shoots for its second straight victory over Memphis. Last year, the Owls stunned the Tigers 34-31 as 11-point home underdogs. Temple is a huge 20.5-point road dog this time around, while the totals are listed at 53.0 points.

The Temple Owls improved to 2-2 straight up and 3-1 ATS on the season following a 28-0 thrashing of the UMass Minutemen in Week 4. It was their third consecutive ATS victory, as the Owls covered a 10-point spread. They bounced back from a heartbreaking 16-14 home loss in Week 3 when the Owls nearly upset the Rutgers Scarlet Knights as 18-point home underdogs.

“It sure feels good to get a win,” Temple head coach Stan Drayton said. “They don’t come easy, that’s for sure … UMass did a phenomenal job in the first half of that ballgame, and I’m just proud of our guys to show the capability to overcome some adversity and find a way to put it all together and come out in the second half and win that ballgame. A lot to grow from, a lot to learn from. Boy, we have a lot of work to do.”

The Owls’ offense was sloppy last weekend, especially in the first half, but their defense did a good job against the mediocre Minutemen team. Freshman signal-caller EJ Warner completed just 11 of his 22 passing attempts, finishing with 173 yards and a couple of touchdowns and interceptions, while senior wideout Adonicas Sanders had four catches for 101 yards and a TD. The Owls ran 34 times for 107 yards, and junior QB Quincy Patterson led the way with ten carries for 52 yards and a TD.

Temple is averaging just 91.8 rushing yards per game (121st in the country) and 2.8 yards per carry (123rd). The Owls lean on their defense, surrendering 15.0 points per game (18th) on 130.0 rushing yards (56th) and 267.5 passing yards (16th).
