Tampa Bay Rays (3-0) vs. Washington Nationals (1-2)

The 2023 Major League Baseball Season is closing out the second week of the season with this interleague battle between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.  Tampa Bay enters as the favorite at -180 with the total set at 8.0.

These teams have not played each other since 2001 when Washington won three of the four games, including the last three. They were the underdogs in all but one of those games, winning two of those three contests. 

The Tampa Bay Rays opened the season with a three-game sweep, absolutely dominating the Detroit Tigers. The Rays won Sunday’s contest, 5-1, winning the three-game series by a combined score of 21-3. 

Jeffrey Springs tossed six no-hit innings, allowing a single walk as the only blemish against the lefty. He struck out 12. The bullpen allowed one run in three innings, and they have allowed two of the three runs that the team has allowed this season, posting a 1.80 ERA in 10 innings. Drew Rasmussen will get the start. He was 11-7 last season with a 2.84 ERA in 28 starts.

Randy Arozarena homered in the victory, his first of the season. He hit 20 homers last season, driving in 89. Tampa Bay has hit four homers with 21 runs scored through the first three games. Jose Siri leads the team with five RBI. Wander Franco has seven hits and is hitting .636.
