It’s the start of an interleague series on the diamond between a division leader and a team trying to make up ground as they clash in the Windy City. The Tampa Bay Rays are on the road as they open up a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs Monday afternoon. Tampa Bay played the rubber game of a three-game series with the Dodgers at home Sunday afternoon. The Rays were beaten 6-5 in the middle game of the set Saturday. Chicago tried to avoid a three-game sweep at home at the hands of the Reds after falling 8-5 in the middle game of that series Saturday night. The Rays took two of three in the most recent series between the teams, which took place at Wrigley Field April 18-20, 2022.

Tampa Bay split their first two games with the NL West-leading Dodgers over the weekend heading into Sunday’s rubber game and look to build their advantage in the crowded AL East race. The Rays entered Sunday 38-16 on the year and held a four-game advantage on the Orioles for the top spot in the division. On Saturday, Tampa Bay picked up a pair of hits from Wander Franco (run, RBI), Harold Ramirez (run, two RBI) and Taylor Walls (run) though it wasn’t enough in the loss. Ramirez hit his eighth homer of the season in a losing effort. Tyler Glasnow didn’t factor in the decision in his season debut, throwing 4.1 innings while allowing three runs on five hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. Colin Poche (3-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits with no walks and one strikeout in one inning of relief.
