Against New Jersey, Tampa Bay simply did n’t have the gas in the tank after playing Saturday night as they were taken down by the Devils at home Sunday. The Lightning saw the shots even at 10 in the opening period and they took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room at the first intermission. Nikita Kucherov opened the scoring with his 28th goal of the season at 3:26 off an assist from Steven Stamkos. The second period saw Tampa Bay outshot 17-6 and outscored 3-1 to trail 3-2 after 40 minutes of play. Alex Killorn made it a 2-0 game at 6:30 off assists from Erik Cernak and Anthony Cirelli. Tampa Bay lost the momentum as they gave up a goal nine seconds later, getting the Devils going. In the third period, the Lightning was outshot 12-8 and outscored 2-0 to put the game out of reach. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 34 saves for Tampa Bay, who was outshot 39-24, in the loss. He’s expected to get the call between the pipes again here.
