The Tampa Bay Lightning face the Buffalo Sabres with both teams looking to improve on rocky seasons. The Lightning have a 23-17-5 record and with four wins in a row, they have leaped into fourth place in the Atlantic Division. The Sabres have a 20-21-4 record and are near the bottom of the Atlantic Division but have won back-to-back games. The Lightning are having a great season with their offense leading the way, scoring 3.38 goals per game with 16 goals in the last three games. Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point, and Steven Stamkos have scored 68 goals and 96 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Brandon Hagel, Nick Paul, and Anthony Cirelli have combined for 34 goals and 45 assists while defenseman Victor Hedman has added eight goals and 36 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense is great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.38 goals per game. Victor Hedman and Nicklaus Perbix have combined for 4.6 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy has struggled with a .899 save percentage and a 2.86 goals-against average on 612 shots with -3.1 goals saved above average.
