It’s an interconference contest on the ice as a pair of teams tangle out in the Valley of the Sun. The Tampa Bay Lightning are on the road as they travel to face the Arizona Coyotes Tuesday night. Tampa Bay was in action on the road Monday night as they faced the Avalanche in the first game of a back-to-back situation. The Lightning routed Carolina 8-2 on Friday night in their previous contest. Arizona skates in off a 2-0 shutout victory over Vegas on the road in their previous contest Saturday night. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Lightning owns a 6-3-1 advantage but it was the Coyotes picking up a 1-0 shootout win at home in the most recent matchup on February 15, 2023.

Tampa Bay was on the ice Monday night in the first game of a back-to-back set that comes to a close here. The Lightning entered Monday tied for third in the Atlantic Division with a 10-6-5 record, leaving them six points behind the Bruins for the top spot. Tampa Bay went into Monday 4th in the league in goals per game as they put up an average of 3.71 goals per contest. The Lightning stands 27th in goals against by allowing 3.52 goals per game. Tampa Bay is 2nd with the man advantage as they cash in on 34.7% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Lightning are 10th in penalty killing as they successfully work through 84.4% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Carolina Friday, Tampa Bay got their offense firing on all cylinders and got their starting goaltender back in a big win. The Lightning started slow, getting outshot 8-1 in the opening period and trailing 1-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play. In the second period, Tampa Bay was outshot 12-6 and outscored Carolina 3-1 to take a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. Steven Stamkos tied the game with his ninth goal of the season, on the power play, at 1:34 off assists from Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov. Kucherov gave Tampa Bay a 2-1 lead with his 14th goal of the year, on the power play, at 5:40 off assists from Brandon Hagel and Michael Eyssimont. Only 14 seconds later, Brayden Point made it 3-1 with his ninth goal of the year, on the power play at 5:54 off assists from Kucherov and Victor Hedman. The Lightning gave up a goal later in the period to narrow their lead to one goal.

In the third period, Tampa Bay held a 7-4 shot advantage and blitzed Carolina 5-0 to put the game away. Hagel extended to a 4-2 lead with his 10th goal of the season off assists from Point and Kucherov at the 5:33 mark. Luke Glendeniing made it a 5-2 game with his third of the year, unassisted, at the 6:53 mark. Point added his second goal of the night and 10th of the year at 10:41 off assists from Nick Perbix and Cole Koepke to make it a 6-2 game. Kucherov netted his second of the game and 15th of the year at 16:45 off assists from Hagel and Mikhail Sergachev for a 7-2 lead. Point closed the scoring by finishing his hat trick with his 11th goal of the season at 18:08, on the power play, with assists going to Kucherov and Stamkos. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 22 saves for the Lightning in his first start of the year as Tampa Bay was outshot 24-14 in the win. Jonas Johansson is expected to be between the pipes here.
