The first Sun Belt Championship game was played in 2018. The 2022 version will mark Coastal Carolina's second appearance in the game and Troy's first. Unfortunately, the Chanticleers' first appearance resulted in a no-contest after the 2020 Sun Belt title game was canceled due to COVID-19.
