The NHL crowned a new champion Tuesday night as the Vegas Golden Knights overcame the Florida Panthers in five games to win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. With the 2022-23 campaign officially in the books, hockey enthusiasts already have their sights set on the next season.
With that in mind, let's check out the early contenders for next year's Stanley Cup, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's'2023-24 Stanley Cup odds'that were recently released.
Stanley Cup 2023-24 Odds by Team
The Colorado Avalanche come in at the top of the early 2023-24 Stanley Cup odds list, sitting at +800. It isn't too shocking to see the Avalanche as the favorite considering that they took home the Cup in 2022. Colorado is one of the deepest teams in the league but was plagued by injuries during the postseason. With a healthy roster, the Avs can beat any team, any day of the week.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers are tied for the second-best Stanley Cup odds (+1100) at the moment. The pair of Canadian clubs boast two of the most dangerous offenses in hockey with Toronto icing names like Auston Matthews, John Tavares, and William Nylander while Edmonton is led by the dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. With the right coaching decisions, both sides can make some noise.
After winning their first Stanley Cup, the Golden Knights find themselves in a five-way tie with the New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, and Tampa Bay Lightning for the fourth-best odds (+1300). Outside of Vegas, each of these teams failed to meet expectations in the playoffs, meaning they'll be looking to make statements next season.

Stanley Cup 2023-24 Best Bet
Although there is a fair share of worthy contenders on the list, I like the idea of the Tampa Bay Lightning bouncing back and winning the Stanley Cup at +1300 odds.
The Lightning suffered a first-round exit this postseason, but a lot of that had to do with their being exhausted. It's important to remember that Tampa Bay has played more hockey than any other team over the last four seasons, reaching the Stanley Cup Final three times.
Now, for the first time since 2019, the Lightning have a full offseason to recuperate and heal their injuries. A healthy roster with the likes of Steven Stamkos, Victor Hedman, Andrei Vasilevskiy, and more leading the charge can handle even the most elite talent that the NHL has to offer.
Anyone who doubts the Lightning after their relatively quick postseason exit will be in trouble next season.
