Stanford head coach Jerod Haas enters his 7th season in Palo Alto coming off a disappointing 16-16 season in 2021-22. He is just two wins away from 100 victories at Stanford and hopes that he gets that out of the way quickly as his team looks towards its first NCAA Tournament berth under his tutelage. This year could be the year as Stanford returns four starters from last year's 16-win team including 6-7 sophomore Harrison Ingram. He averaged nearly 11 points and 7 rebounds last season. Last year's leading scorer, 6-7 senior Spencer Jones also returns along with point guard Michael O'Connell and 6-9 forward James Keefe, who may take on more of a prominent role on the offensive end. Ingram, however, will likely be the key as he decided to stay in school another season instead of declaring for the NBA draft.

“In each part of this game, hopefully he can take a step forward,” Haase told . &#x201C ;The one thing that’s an easy one to evaluate is just shooting percentages. If he becomes a more potent 3-point shooter, I think the rest of his game will translate well to the NBA someday.”

Stanford shot the ball very well in the opener, drilling 60% of their shots overall in a 88-78 win over Pacific at home. Michael Jones, the first graduate transfer in team history, scored a career-high 31 points. Jones, previously at Davidson, went 9-of-15 from the floor in the win. Maxime Raynaud scored 22 points, also a career-high, and added nine rebounds while Ingram had seven points, six rebounds and a team-high six assists in the opening-night win. A couple of concerning numbers for Stanford, they shot just 36% from long range and turned the ball over 16 times. Both areas were areas for concern for Haas coming into the season.
