St. Louis Cardinals vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-22-2023

St. Louis Cardinals (8-11) vs. Seattle Mariners (8-11)

The 2023 Major League Baseball Season is continuing through the fourth week as the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Seattle Mariners in this interleague Battle at the T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington on Saturday, April 22, 2023. Seattle enters as the favorite (-140) with the total set at 7.5.

These clubs play on Friday evening, but this preview was written prior to the conclusion of that contest. Prior to the season, the last time these teams met was in July 2019 when St. Louis took two of the three games in Seattle. The teams have split the last 10 meetings dating back to 2010.

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, 14-5, avoiding the sweep of the three-game series. St. Louis went 3-4 on the recent seven-game homestand, but now heads to the road where the club is 3-3 this season. The Cardinals are in fourth place in the NL Central.

The Cardinals found themselves tied at three entering the bottom of the third but scored four in the third, three in the fifth, and four more in the sixth to earn the nine-run victory. Tommy Edman had a huge game at the top of the order, going 3-4 with three runs scored and five RBI. That included hitting his second homerun of the season and Nolan Gorman hit a grand slam. This St. Louis offense has been quite impressive, posting a .795 OPS, third overall, but that has them just 13th in runs scored (91). St. Louis is averaging 5.52 runs per game over their last 10.

The Cardinals will start right-hander Miles Mikolas, who has struggled early this season, going 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA in four starts. Mikolas gave up at least five runs in each of his first three starts but allowed two earned runs in 5.2 innings in his last outing. He is definitely going to need some help from his relievers, and this is a good group, posting a 3.33 ERA this year. The bullpen ERA is 2.92 over the last 10.
