St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-24-2022

The St. Louis Cardinals (70-52, 68-54 RL 57-61-4 O/U) battle the Chicago Cubs (53-69, 64-58 RL, 52-61-9 O/U) as the rivals continue a five-game series on Wednesday evening. The Cardinals will have Miles Mikolas on the hill targeting a third straight win. The Cubs will reply with Luke Farrell. The Cards lead the season series 8-5.

The Cardinals will have Miles Mikolas take the mound for the 26th time of the season. Mikolas was brilliant in his latest effort, limiting the Diamondbacks to only one run in eight innings, and earned the win to improve his record to 10-9. The veteran right-hander had one bad outing where he allowed 10 runs to the Rockies earlier this month but is having an outstanding season, flaunting a 3.32 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in 157.1 innings pitched. Mikolas has conceded eight runs in 17.1 innings against the Cubs this season and is 4-2 with a stellar 2.22 ERA in 73 career innings. 

The Cards are a determined team. They had won eight in a row entering Tuesday night and now feature a four-game lead ahead of the Brewers. They have issued sweeps against the Rockies and Diamondbacks and continue to flourish at the plate. They have won five of six road games.

Paul Goldschmidt is delivering at the plate against the Cub pitching. The veteran star collected nine RBIs along with a .954 OPS. The veteran star is probably going to win the NL MVP. He has launched 31 homers along with 100 RBIs and leads the big leagues with a 1.039 OPS. He has a whopping 22 RBIs on the month. 

The Cardinals are averaging 4.88 runs, ranking them third overall. The pitching staff has logged a 3.82 team ERA, placing them 13th in the big leagues.
