St. Louis won their second straight game after an eight-game slide as they took the opening game of this series Monday night. The Cardinals improved to 12-24 on the season and entered Tuesday in the basement of the NL Central, nine games behind the Pirates for the top spot in the division. On Monday, St. Louis finished with six hits with former Cub Willson Contreras (run, two RBI) the lone player with two in his debut as a visiting player at Wrigley Field. Miles Mikolas didn’t factor in the decision as he threw 4.1 innings, allowing one run on four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts before departing. Genesis Cabrera (1-1) earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit with two walks and one strikeout. Ryan Helsley got the final four outs to earn his fourth save of the year.
Jordan Montgomery is on the mound for his eighth start of the season for the Cardinals in this contest.
