The St. Louis Blues are on the road as they make the trip to face the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday night. St. Louis edged Vancouver 6-5 in overtime at home in their previous contest Tuesday night. Chicago fell 4-1 at home to Dallas in their previous contest Tuesday night, continuing their late season slide. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Blues own an 8-1-1 advantage but it was the Blackhawks taking a 5-3 road triumph in their most recent matchup back on January 21.

St. Louis improved to 5-0-2 in their last seven games as they outlasted Vancouver in overtime at home Tuesday night. The Blues entered Wednesday 34-34-6, leaving them sixth in the Central Division, 21 points behind Minnesota for the top spot and 20 behind Dallas for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the division. They stood 11 points behind Winnipeg for the final wild card spot. St. Louis is 16th in the league in goals for as they average 3.23 goals a contest this season. The Blues stand 28th in the league in goals against as they allow an average of 3.66 goals a night. St. Louis is 20th in power play success as they cash in on 20.6% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Blues are a dismal 27th in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 74.5% of their shorthanded situations this year.

Against Vancouver, it was a wild back and fo rth affair that saw the Blues net the overtime winner to put the game in the win column. The Blues held a 17-13 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period and skated off tied at two after 20 minutes. After falling behind 1-0, Alexey Toropchenko knotted the game for St. Louis with his seventh goal of the season, unassisted, at the 11:50 mark. Justin Faulk gave the Blues a 2-1 lead with his 10th goal of the year at 16:48 off assists from Pavel Buchnevich and Sammy Blais. They gave up the equalizer in the final minute of the period. In the second period, St. Louis was outshot 12-8 but outscored Vancouver 3-1 to take a 5-3 lead at the second intermission. Jakub Vrana gave the Blues a 3-2 lead with his eighth goal of the year at 7:24 off an assist from Brandon Saad. Robert Thomas extended to a 4-2 St. Louis advantage with his 17th of the year, on the power play, at 12:08 with assists going to Faulk and Saad. Buchnevich made it a 5-2 game with his 25th goal of the year at 13:36 with assists going to Kasperi Kapanen and Blais. The Blues gave up a late goal to trim the margin to a pair after 40 minutes. He is expected to get the start in goal again here.

In the third period, St. Louis was outshot by a 12-5 margin and they were outscored 2-0 to knot things up at five, sending the game to overtime. During the extra session, the Blues had the lone shot on goal and lit the lamp for the victory. Vrana scored his second of the game and ninth of the season just 28 seconds into overtime with assists going to Brayden Schenn and Faulk to give St. Louis the victory. Jordan Binnington made 32 saves for the Blues, who were outshot 37-31, in the win.
