The semifinals of the Discount Center CBI Tournament are set for Tuesday evening. In the opener, the 8th-seeded Eastern Kentucky Colonels will battle the fourth-seeded Southern Utah Thunderbirds for a spot in the finals on Wednesday night. Eastern Kentucky has reached the semifinal round thanks to back-to-back overtime wins, first over Cleveland State in the opening round and then over #1 Indiana State in the quarterfinals. The road has been easier for the Thunderbirds after double-digit wins over North Alabama and Rice to reach the semifinals. The opening tap is scheduled for 7:00 PM at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Eastern Kentucky, out of the ASUN Conference, now has 22 wins on the season after pulling out consecutive overtime wins to reach the semifinals. Eastern Kentucky looked dead in the water in its opening game, trailing by 13 points to Cleveland State in the second half. Instead, the Colonels rallied back to force overtime and then outscored Cleveland State 17-1 in the extra session to pull away. On Monday afternoon against top-seeded Indiana State, they trailed by four at halftime before rallying to force overtime. Devontae Blanton led the way with 32 points and eight rebounds in the nail-biting win over the top-seeded Sycamores. Isaiah Cozart’s two free throws with 19 seconds left secured the win for the Colonels.
