It’s an AAC matchup on the gridiron as a pair of sub-.500 teams take the field in the City of Brotherly Love. The South Florida Bulls are on the road as they make the trip to face the Temple Owls Saturday afternoon. South Florida was knocked off 42-27 on the road by Houston last Saturday in their previous contest though they did cover the 16.5-point spread. Temple was knocked off 27-20 on the road in overtime by Navy last Saturday in their previous contest. The Owls did cover the 14.5-point line in that game. In the all-time series between the programs, the Owls own a 5-3 advantage though it was the Bulls taking a 34-14 win at home in the most recent meeting on October 23, 2021.

South Florida dropped their sixth straight game as they were unable to sustain their momentum against Houston, wilting in the second half. The Bulls dropped to 1-7 overall on the year and stand 0-4 in the AAC, leaving them tied with Temple for the basement. Against Houston, South Florida led 14-7 in the opening quarter and stood even at 14 after one before things started slipping away. The Bulls gave up two second quarter touchdowns to trail 28-14 at the half and couldn’t get closer than seven after that. South Florida was beaten 490-429 in total offense and was edged 30:07 to 29:53 in time of possession. Those numbers negated their 24-23 advantage in first downs and the fact that they forced the game’s lone turnover.

On the season, the Bulls are 108th in the nation in passing offense with 192.9 yards per game while they are 55th in rushing offense with 168 yards per contest. South Florida is 90th in the FBS in scoring offense with 25.5 points per game while they are 128th in scoring defense by allowing 38.1 points per contest. Gerry Bohanon, the former Baylor QB, runs the offense for South Florida: he is 91 of 160 passing for 1,070 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions. He is second on the team with 60 carries for 386 yards plus three scores. He suffered a shoulder injury against Tulane October 15 and was lost for the year. Katravis Marsh (35 of 60, 473 yards, three TD, five rushing yards) has taken over the quarterback duties. Brian Battie leads the team with 93 carries for 599 yards plus six scores while Jaren Mangham contributes 24 carries for 104 yards and three scores as the second back. Michel Dukes (34 carries, 131 yards, four TD) is a solid third back in the system. Xavier Weaver is the top receiving threat as he has 43 catches for 539 yards plus three scores. Jimmy Horn Jr. (22 grabs, 381 yards, thre e TD) and Omarion Dollison (eight receptions, 125 yards) are the only other players over 100 receiving yards on the year. Spencer Shrader has hit all 25 extra point attempts but is five of eight on field goal attempts with a long of 49 this season.
