South Carolina Gamecocks (5-3) vs. Vanderbilt Commodores (3-5)

Week 10 of the 2022 college football season is upon us, and the South Carolina Gamecocks face off against the Vanderbilt Commodores in the Southeastern Conference showdown at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

South Carolina opens as a 7-point road fave with a total of 48.5 points. The visitors aim for their 14th straight victory over the Commodores, who have covered the spread five times in their previous 13 encounters with South Carolina.

The South Carolina Gamecocks (5-3; 4-4 ATS; 2-3 conf.) put an end to their four-game winning streak last Saturday. They lost to the Missouri Tigers 23-10, playing as 3.5-point home favorites. The Gamecocks racked up just 203 total yards and lost the turnover battle 2-0, as they couldn’t cope with the Tigers’ defense. South Carolina ran 23 times for a paltry 32 yards, while junior QB Spencer Rattler went 20-of-30 for 171 yards and an interception.

“We’re a second-half team and we didn’t do it today,” South Carolina coach Shane Beamer said. “Give Missouri credit, that’s a good football team. I knew it was going to be a battle. It starts with me, only thing we can do is go back to work.”

Spencer Rattler has thrown for 1,637 yards, five touchdowns, and nine interceptions so far this season. He’s also scored a couple of touchdowns on his own, while sophomore RB Marshawn Lloyd leads the way for the Gamecocks with 729 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns. Lloyd is averaging 5.6 yards per carry, but he posted just 30 yards on seven totes against Missouri before suffering a thigh injury. Marshawn is questionable to play against Vanderbilt.

“A thigh contusion is something that a lot of people don’t really know much about,” Lloyd said. “When they hear bruise, they’re like it’s just a bruise, but there’s a lot that goes to it. If a bruise gets too tight, you probably couldn’t move your leg. But mine isn’t that bad, so I’m able to move my leg and walk. It could be worse, but I’m just blessed I’m able to have the people around me, to help me get through this.”

South Carolina will have to lean more on sophomore RB Juju McDowell, who has 242 yards from scrimmage and a pair of touchdowns on his season tally. Junior wideout Antwane Wells Jr. will continue to lead the Gamecocks’ receiving corps after posting 37 catches for 464 yards and two scores through the previous eight games.
