On Saturday, the South Alabama Jaguars play the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference tournament at Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Florida. South Alabama reached the quarterfinals by defeating Appalachian State 68-61 on Thursday. Southern Miss reached the quarterfinals via a bye after winning the regular season conference title with an overall record 25-6 and a SB Conference record of 14-4. South Alabama and Southern Miss do not have any players listed on their respective injury reports.
South Alabama held Appalachian State to just 61 points in the second round of the tournament. During the regular season, South Alabama held opponents to an average of 65.3 points per game and 42.1% shooting. The Jaguars held the Mountaineers to 37.9% shooting overall and 36.4% shooting from three-point territory. South Alabama also owned a slight edge on the boards, grabbing 37 rebounds compared to 35 for Appalachian State. South Alabama gave up too many offensive rebounds, allowing Appalachian State 12 but a tough defense did not allow the Mountaineers to take too many open shots.

Samuel was the leading shot blocker for South Alabama with an average of 2.6 swats per game.
