The SMU Mustangs and Maryland Terrapins face off on Saturday in a Week 3 college football showdown at Byrd Stadium.
SMU comes into this game having won their first two games of the season. SMU beat North Texas 48-10 in the first game, and in the last game against Lamar they were able to win 45-16. Under center for SMU is Tanner Mordecai and in his last game, he completed 18 of his 31 passes for 212 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Velton Gardner also had a big game rushing 11 times for 100 yards. Rashee Rice had a big game out wide catching nine passes for 132 yards, and two touchdowns. In this game though the defense is going to need to be better.
On the other side of this matchup is the Maryland Terrapins who come into this game with a 2-0 record so far this season. Maryland beat Buffalo 31-10 in the first game and in the last game against Charlotte they won 56-10. Under center for Maryland is Taulia Tagovailoa and he has completed 27 of his 31 passes for 391 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Wide receiver Jacob Copeland is having a big season and in his last game, he had four receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Jeshaun Jones also caught six passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns. The defense for Maryland is going to be tested in this game, and they are going to need to be strong here.
