SMU at Houston – 1/5/23 College Basketball Picks and Prediction

The SMU Mustangs and Houston Cougars face off on Thursday in a college basketball showdown at the Hofheinz Pavilion. When these two teams faced off in February of last year it was Houston that secured the 75-61 victory. 

The SMU Mustangs are having a very down season. Coming into this game they sit with a 6-8 record and they have gone 6-8 against the spread. In the last game against Tulsa the offense was strong scoring 92 points, and they won in blowout fashion. There were five different players that scored at least 11 points in that game. SMU is averaging 69.9 points while their defense is giving up 70.1 points per game. Zhuric Phelps has been the top player for SMU averaging 18.4 points while shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 32.8 percent from behind the three point line. 

On the other side of this matchup is Houston who sits with a 14-1 record overall and they have gone 10-5 against the spread. In the last game against UCF, Houston didn’t play their best game but they were able to win 71-65. Marcus Sasser had a strong game finishing with 18 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Houston is averaging 75 points while their defense is giving up 50.9 points per game. The defense is the best in college basketball. Marcus Sasser is averaging 15.9 points while shooting 40.9 percent from the field and 32 percent from behind the three point line.
