Shohei Ohtani Next Team Odds 2023: Are Angels Being Undervalued?iv class=”bodyContent col-lg-9 mb-3″>

Baseball's unicorn, Shohei Ohtani, is a free agent, and with presumably every single team trying to sign the two-way megastar, here's a look at the best MLB odds for Ohtani's next team via our best sports betting apps.

Major League Baseball should create a rule this offseason: any team that doesn't make a genuine attempt to sign Shohei Ohtani is relegated to the minors, or at least publicly shamed. The benefits that come from acquiring the perennial MVP candidate are plentiful, and they go well beyond wins and losses.

With two of our best sports betting sites offering odds on Ohtani's next team, we're getting an early start on our 2024 MLB futures by analyzing which club(s) you should be targeting with your bets.

Let's examine this market using our best MLB betting sites and attempt to determine the top option r egarding Ohtani's next team.

Shohei Ohtani's next team odds analysis

There are some massive discrepancies between the odds at DraftKings and FanDuel, with the latter offering a couple of rogue prices on teams that are reportedly among the biggest contenders to sign Ohtani. Unfortunately, for American bettors, only FanDuel Canada offers this market, serving as a reminder to shop for odds across our best Ontario sportsbooks for those with access.

For those with the ability to bet at either book, three teams immediately grab our attention at FanDuel.

First, the Los Angeles Dodgers. As Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported, the Dodgers are the “overwhelming favorites” to add the Japanese superst ar to their already-stacked roster, and the odds reflect that at both of our best sportsbooks. However, you can get them at far longer odds at FanDuel, as it offers the Dodgers as Ohtani's next team at +250 compared to DraftKings' +100 number.

The second team to note is the Chicago Cubs, whom Nightengale refers to as a “sleeper pick.” Perhaps the biggest reason to bet on the Cubs is simply the difference in their odds at FanDuel compared to DraftKings, which is one of the reasons I've already added them to my portfolio. With the Cubs recently hiring one of the three finalists for this year's National League Manager of the Year Award in Craig Counsell, it's clear Chicago is ready to contend once again, and there would be no better way to smash open that window.

Third, we have the reigning World Series champions, the Texas Rangers. Now, I have a hard time imagining Ohtani living in Arlington, TX (though he did regularly sport a cowboy hat in 2022), but the value speaks for itself. DraftKings prices the defending champs at +900 to sign Ohtani, while FanDuel is far longer at +2500.

One of the trickiest aspects of this market will be what the contract itself looks like. Ohtani underwent Tommy John surgery in October and won't pitch at all in 2024. Therefore, it's entirely possible the team he plays for in 2024 is simply a stopgap between this season and the rest of his career.

Shohei Ohtani's next team pick

OK, I know, it's the Angels. They employed perhaps the worst trade deadline strategy ever in 2023, “buying” (poorly, at that) while never really serving as a contender rather than trading Ohtani for a king's ransom. And maybe they' ve bungled this completely. However, isn't it possible they did that knowing they had a leg up when he hit free agency in the offseason?

As Sportsbook Review's Esten McLaren mentioned to me, the Angels are in essentially the same spot they were five years ago when they originally signed Ohtani. They still stink, they're still not a huge baseball market (something he apparently preferred), and they'll still presumably do whatever they can to make him happy – results aside, the Angels have been plenty busy since winning the Ohtani sweepstakes.

Unless the Angels bow out themselves, I expect them to be in the running until the bitter end of this thing.

Along with the Cubs, I've added the Angels to my portfolio. I think these odds are far too long for the only MLB team Ohtani has played for, and it feels as though the price is being driven by the narrative that the Angels dropped the ball.< /p>
