Seattle Seahawks vs. Dallas Cowboys Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-26-2022

The Seattle Seahawks will take flight to Dallas, TX and make a stop in Jerry's World to take on the Cowboys to wrap up the 2022 preseason for both teams. It should be a matchup filled with bubble players as all NFL teams must have their rosters trimmed from 80 to 53 by August 30th. Expect the Seahawks sideline to be a bit more competitive as they are still trying to hash out the team's #1 quarterback for 2022 while the Cowboys have all their key positions sewn up at this point. The opening kickoff is set for 8:00pm EST.

After trading away multi-time Pro Bowler and former Super Bowl Champion quarterback Russell Wilson in the offseason, the Seahawks made it clear that the team was turning the page from those glory days and trying to build a new championship caliber roster. The Seahawks also parted ways with long-time leader LB Bobby Wagner, DE Carlos Dunlap and watched long-time OLB K.J. Wright retire as well as veteran RB Chris Carson, who retired after five seasons due to a neck injury. This team will no longer feature the unique skillset of Wilson improvising plays and making deep throws downfield and long gone are the days of the Legion of Boom. Longtime head coach Pete Carroll must now sort out his roster and move forward with returning players like wide receivers Ty Lockett and DK Metcalf as well as safeties Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams. Most of these players, however, will likely sit out this final preseason contest and get ready for week 1 of the se ason.

It will be interesting to see how the quarterback situation sorts itself out in Seattle as the preseason winds down. Geno Smith, who is familiar with the Seahawks system entering his third year with the club, looked to be the favorite when camp opened. In the team's first preseason game, a 32-25 loss to the Steelers, both Smith and Drew Locke looked sharp. Locke was part of the trade package from the Broncos for Wilson and was brought in with a fair shot to win the starting job. Each quarterback threw for over 100 yards in the first preseason game although the offense looked a bit more crisp with Locke at the helm. In week two, Smith shared quarterbacking duties with 3rd string quarterback Jacob Eason as Locke sat out with COVID issues. Following the game, Carroll didn't exactly give his returning quarterback a ringing endorsement:

“He did OK,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said of Smith. “We needed to come through. We need ed to help him a little bit. We needed to make the plays around him, too.”

Without a clear-cut winner at this point, expect both quarterbacks to see significant time in Dallas to close out the preseason schedule.
