This Tuesday the (55-48) Seattle Mariners and the (69-34) New York Yankees will play game two of this three-game series. The first pitch will be thrown out at 7:05 PM EST inside Yankee Stadium. This is also the first series between these two teams this season.
The Seattle Mariners are coming into this one after losing their previous series to the Houston Astros. The Mariners struggled at the plate, as they failed to score enough runs to hang with Houston. All three games that Seattle lost were close, as they will be looking to bounce back in this one.
The New York Yankees are entering this one after winning their previous series against the Kansas City Royals. New York's bats looked to be heating up, as they scored at least six runs in three out of the four games they played. They will need to stay strong at the plate if they want to take down Seattle in this one.
This game was written/published before last night's results.
The Seattle Mariners didn't start this season how they would have liked, but they just went on one of the craziest winning streaks that I have seen. They have now put themselves back into playoff contention, as they are currently in second place in the AL West. They are 12.0 games back from the Astros, as they still have a long way to go. They are also (4-6) in their last 10, as they have cooled off a bit! At the plate, they are scoring 4.09 runs per game and hitting .233 as a team. This is the 23rd least amount of runs scored per game and the 25th lowest overall team batting average. They have struggled to consistently reach base, as they aren't making enough contact to drive in their base runners when they are in scoring position. Luckily, they have shown that they can score multiple different ways. They are averaging 1.09 home runs per game, which is the 14th most in the MLB. They can clear the bases with one swing, but they will be without their young star, Julio Rodriguez, as he was hit by a pitch this last Saturday. He is now on the IL, as he will most likely miss this whole series. I am also expecting the Mariners to stay conservative once they have reached base safely. They have only stolen 53 bases this season, which is the 16th most. They will do whatever it takes to try and score, as it isn't easy to keep up with these Yankees.
In the field, the Mariners are one of the best teams in the MLB. They have continued to be the best fielding team in the league, as they make very few mistakes and they do a great job of backing up their starting pitchers. They are currently allowing 3.90 runs per game, which is the fifth least. They keep their opponents off the base paths and they don't give their opponents second or third chances to score. They have only recorded 35 fielding errors, which is also the least amount of mistakes made in the field this season. They have the highest fielding percentage as a team, as well. They are making .990% of their plays, as I see them staying solid in this one.
According to MLB.com, Logan Gilbert will be getting the start in this one. He has been on fire this season, as he is (10-4) with a 2.78 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. Reaching base has been very difficult against him and he's been an absolute beast on the road this season. He is (6-1) with a 2.47 ERA, as he has been great in his opponent's ballparks. Gilbert will be looking to get back into the win column in this one, as well. He suffered two close losses to the Astros in his last starts, as he kept his team in the game for as long as he could.
Injury List: The Mariners will be without Julio Rodriguez (Wrist) a nd Ty France (Wrist) is listed as questionable.
