Seattle Mariners vs. New York Yankees Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-1-2022

A pair of teams looking to bounce back from disappointing losses will square off on Monday night when New York hosts Seattle. The Mariners were only able to pick up one win in their four-game series at Houston over the weekend, losing Sunday’s finale in extra innings. New York had its three-game winning streak snapped when it blew a late lead against Kansas City.

Seattle entered the All-Star break with as much momentum as any team in the MLB, but it has not been able to deal with American League West-leading Houston since then. The Mariners have now played seven games against the Astros in the last 10 days, losing six of those contests. They wrapped up a four-game series on the road with a 3-2 loss in 10 innings on Sunday. Seattle did pick up a three-game sweep against Texas in between the seven games against Houston, though, so the Mariners have not completely fallen off track. They are holding onto the second AL Wild Card spot, but it is a tight race.

The Mariners have not been a great offensive team this season, ranked No. 25 with a batting average of .233. First baseman Ty France, who is the leading hitter, is questionable for this game with a wrist injury. Standout rookie center fielder Julio Rodriguez hit the injured list and will miss this contest. Seattle is facing a New York pitching staff that ranks third in the majors with an ERA of 3.19. Left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales is going to start for Seattle on Monday night. He allowed two earned runs on four hits and one walk across seven innings against Texas last Wednesday. Gonzales had allowed 10 earned runs on 20 hits in his previous 11.2 innings, so it was a much-needed bounce back effort. He brings a 3.66 ERA into this start.
