The Mariners have lost five of their last six games, falling to the Angels in a 4-3 final on Wednesday. Cleveland has won five of its last six games, taking three out of four at Seattle in the first series of the season.

Seattle is trying to get back on track after a rough start to the season, losing five times during its seven-game homestand. The Mariners have lost five of their last six games, with three of those losses coming against Cleveland last weekend. They dropped two out of three against the Angels earlier this week, losing in a 4-3 final on Wednesday. Seattle generated just one run on three hits and struck out eight times against Los Angeles pitcher Shohei Ohtani, even though he walked four batters. The Mariners pulled to within one run in the bottom of the seventh on Ty France’s RBI double and Eugenio Suarez’s run-scoring single.

Suarez and J.P. Crawford each had two hits for the Mariners in the loss. They have been struggling at the plate early in the season, ranked No. 24 in the MLB in team batting average (.222). France leads the way with 10 hits, six runs and five RBI, while Suarez also has 10 base knocks. They are facing a Cleveland pitching staff that is No. 13 with an ERA of 4.04. Right-handed pitcher Logan Gilbert is going to start for Seattle on Friday afternoon. He allowed one earned run on four hits across 6.0 innings while striking out seven batters in a 2-0 loss to Cleveland last Saturday. Gilbert went 13-6 with a 3.20 ERA last year.
