The Seattle Kraken are on the road as they make the long trip to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday night. Seattle was downed 4-3 on the road by Chicago Tuesday night in their previous contest. Toronto comes in off a 2-1 shootout win over Florida at home Tuesday night that didn’t come easily in their previous game. In the abbreviated all-time series between the two teams, the Maple Leafs own a 3-1 advantage, including a 5-1 road victory in the most recent matchup on February 26, 2023.

Seattle battled in the Windy City but ended up falling short against the Blackhawks Tuesday night as they sustained their second straight loss. The Kraken dropped to 8-10-5 on the season and are tied for fourth in the Pacific Division, 11 points behind Vegas for the top spot. They were eight points behind Los Angeles for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the division. Seattle entered Wednesday 26th in the league in goals for as they average 2.78 goals per contest on the season. The Kraken are tied for 25th in the league in goals against as they give up an average of 3.48 goals per game this season. Seattle is 11th in power play success as they cash in on 21.9% of their opportunities with the man advantage. The Kraken are 25th in penalty kill rate to this point of the season as they have gotten through 75% of their shorthanded situations successfully.

Ag ainst Chicago, Seattle was aggressive offensively but they couldn’t get enough offense going to offset their leaky defense. The Kraken held a 14-10 shot advantage in the opening period but skated off tied at two after 20 minutes of play. After falling behind 2-0, Seattle got on the board with Matty Beniers’ fourth goal of the season at 14:43 with Jared McCann drawing the lone assist in the stanza. Alex Wennberg tied the game with his third goal of the year, shorthanded, at 19:23 with assists going to Adam Larsson and Phiilipp Grubauer. In the second period, Seattle saw the shots even at 10 but they were outscored 2-0 to trail 4-2 at the second intermission. The third period saw the Kraken outshoot the Blackhawks 12-3 and they outscored them 1-0, leaving them a goal short as time expired. Tye Kartye tallied his fourth goal of the season at 6:51 off an assist from Beniers to get the Kraken with one but they were unable to get the equalizer. Grubauer made 19 saves for Sea ttle, who held a 36-23 advantage in shots on goal, in the loss. He is expected to be between the pipes for this contest as well.
