Once Upon A Time In Las Vegas – Wildcard Edition

Seattle Kraken (26-12-4) vs. Edmonton Oilers (24-18-3)

The 2022-23 NHL season continues Tuesday, January 17, with the Pacific Division showdown from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, where the Seattle Kraken face off against the Edmonton Oilers with the puck drop at 9:00 PM ET.

Seattle and Edmonton lock horns for the third time this season, and the Oilers open as -165 moneyline favorites with a total of 6.5 goals. They split the previous two encounters, as each team emerged victorious on the road.

Monday’s games have been excluded from the analysis, and the red-hot Seattle Kraken hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning, searching for their ninth victory in a row. Last Saturday, the Kraken wrapped up a seven-game road trip that started with a 5-2 victory over Edmonton. Seattle beat the Chicago Blackhawks 8-5 as a firm -235 moneyline fave, building a ridiculous 6-1 first-period lead.

Jared McCann notched a hat-trick at United Center in Chicago, increasing his season tally to 22 goals. Three players accounted for a pair of dishes including Alex Wennberg, while Martin Jones yielded five goals on 27 shots.

Martin Jones (21-5-3; 2.76 GAA; .895 SV%) was projected to guard the cage Monday against Tampa Bay, so we should see Philipp Grubauer between the pipes on Tuesday. Grubauer is 4-7-1 with a 3.49 GAA and .885 save percentage this season. The Kraken are 17th in the league in goals against (3.07 per game) and third in goals for (3.76).
