It’s a battle of Western Conference teams on the ice as they collide in search of a victory in the Windy City. The Seattle Kraken are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Chicago Blackhawks Tuesday night. Seattle comes in off a 5-1 home loss to Vancouver in their previous contest Friday night. Chicago fell 4-2 at home to St. Louis in their previous game Sunday night. In the six previous meetings between the franchises, the Kraken own a 4-2 advantage and have won the last two meetings. That includes a 7-3 triumph at home in the most recent matchup on April 8, 2023.

Seattle had won three of their previous four games before getting pasted by Vancouver at home in their previous game Friday night. The Kraken dropped to 8-9-5 on the season and are fourth in the Pacific Division, nine points behind Vegas for the top spot. They were eight points behind Vancouver for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the division. Seattle entered Monday 26th in the league in goals for as they average 2.77 goals per contest on the season. The Kraken are tied for 23rd in the league in goals against as they give up an average of 3.46 goals per game this season. Seattle is 8th in power play success as they cash in on 23.5% of their opportunities with the man advantage. The Kraken are 26th in penalty kill rate to this point of the season as they have gotten through 73.8% of their shorthanded situations successfully.

Against Vancouver, Seattle never got their offense in gear and that proved to be their undoing as they were drubbed soundly on home ice. The Kraken held a 10-8 edge in shots on goal in the opening period but trailed 1-0 on the scoreboard at the first intermission. In the second period, Seattle held a 12-7 shot advantage with each team scoring once, leaving them down 2-1 after 40 minutes. After giving up a goal to trail 2-0, Seattle got on the board with Tye Kartye’s third goal of the season at 17:29 off an assist from Vince Dunn to halve their deficit. In the third period, the Kraken were outshot 12-2 and outscored 3-0 to wind up with the loss. Joey Daccord made 22 saves for the Kraken, who were outshot 27-24, in the loss. Philipp Grubauer is expected to be between the pipes in this contest.
