San Jose State Spartans (7-3) vs. Santa Clara Broncos (8-2)

The 2022-23 NCAA men’s basketball season continues Saturday, December 10, with the non-conference battle from Leavey Center in Santa Clara, California, where the San Jose State Spartans face off against the Santa Clara Broncos.

SJSU meets Santa Clara for the second straight season, and the Broncos trounced the Spartans 79-57 as 6-point road favorites in 2021-22. Santa Clara is 9-2 SU and 6-5 ATS in its last 11 encounters with the Spartans dating back to 2010.

The San Jose State Spartans (7-3; 5-4 ATS) beat the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners 58-48 as 8.5-point home favorites this past Tuesday, bouncing back from last weekend’s embarrassing 99-58 defeat at the No. 11 Arkansas Razorbacks. SJSU outrebounded the Roadrunners 49-25 while posting 17 offensive boards in a game where both teams barely shot above 35 percent from the field.

The Spartans went only 3-for-19 from beyond the arc last Tuesday. They handed out nine assists and committed 13 turnovers. At least, the Spartans attacked the rim and went 21-for-28 from the free-throw line while allowing just ten free-throw attempts to the Roadrunners. Sophomore guard Alvaro Cardenas posted a line of ten points, six rebounds, and three assists, while junior big man Ibrahima Diallo added nine points and 11 rebounds (five offensive). &#1 3;

SJSU is No. 203 in the KenPom rankings and No. 186 in the NCAA NET Rankings. The Spartans tally 102.5 points per 100 possessions (165th in the nation) on 46.8% shooting from the field (101st) and 33.5% from downtown (207th). They rank 48th in defensive rebound percentage and 30th in offensive rebound percentage at Bart Torvik. However, the Spartans allow 105.5 points per 100 possessions (252nd) on 36.5% shooting from beyond the arc (305th).
