The San Jose State Spartans will head down the coast and take on the San Diego State Aztecs for their annual matchup from Snapdragon Stadium this weekend on FS1. The San Jose State/San Diego State rivalry dates all the way back to 1935. The series renewed when the Spartans joined the Mountain West in 2013, and the Aztecs hold a head-to-hed lead of 23-20-2.
San Jose State jumped to 6-2 after taking down Colorado State at home in Week 10. The Spartans trailed at halftime, but they rallied with a big second half to stay atop the West division in the MWC. San Jose State averages 27.1 points per game, while passing for 280.4 yards per game (45th), and rushing for 89.3 ypg (267th).
Chevan Cordeiro continues to put up winning numbers and results for SJSU. The Hawaii transfer has come in, and put the Spartans in position to host their first Mountain West title game ever. Cordeiro nearly led San Jose State to a monumental upset over Auburn, and since Week 2, he’s been impressive, with his UNLV performance standing out. Cordeiro went for a season-high 340 yards against Nevada in Week 9, and he’ll look to break down the stiffest defense he’s faced. Cordeiro has thrown for a MWC-leading 2,224 passing yards with eleven touchdowns to two interceptions, and rushed for seven scores through eight starts.
