The San Jose Sharks face the Anaheim Ducks with both teams hoping to rebound from rough starts to the season. The Sharks have an 8-16-5 record and have lost their last four games while the Ducks have a 7-17-3 record and with only two of their last 10 games have the worst record in the Pacific Division. Both teams are looking to climb out of the bottom of the Pacific Division and the Western Conference and the upcoming game looks to be a good one as a result.

The Sharks are having a rough season with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.97 goals per game. Timo Meier, Tomas Hertl, and Logan Couture have combined for 36 goals and 42 assists while defenseman Erik Karlsson is adding 11 goals and 24 assists from the point but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only four skaters have scored seven goals or more while only seven skaters have contributed nine assists or more and opposing defenses can easily eliminate the offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has been one of the worst in the NHL, allowing 3.66 goals per game including 20 goals in the last four games. Erik Karlsson and Jaycob Megna have combined for 2.7 defensive point shares and 69 blocked shots but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to easily generate shots on the net. In addition, goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen has struggled in the net with a .8 77 save percentage and a 3.71 goals-against average on 350 shots.
