A pair of teams from the Pacific Division take the ice in search of two points in the standings as they collide in the Golden State. The San Jose Sharks are on the road as they make the short trip to take on the Anaheim Ducks Sunday night. San Jose was blanked 5-0 on the road by Vegas Friday night in the second game of a back-to-back situation their last time out. Anaheim was doubled up by a 6-3 margin at home by Philadelphia in their previous contest Friday night. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Ducks have a commanding 8-2 advantage, though five of those games were decided in overtime or a shootout. The most recent matchup was a 5-4 overtime road victory for Anaheim on January 6, 2023.

San Jose saw their two-game win streak snapped as they went on the road and was pulverized by Vegas Friday night less than 24 hours after downing Edmonton at home. The Sharks enter this game 2-11-1 on the season and stood tied for seventh in the Pacific Division, 20 points behind Vegas for the top spot. San Jose is 32nd in the league in goals for as they average 1.21 goals per contest. The Sharks are 32nd in goals against as they allow an average of 4.43 goals per contest. San Jose stands tied for 23rd in the league in success with the man advantage as they have cashed in on 15.9% of their power play chances this season. The Sharks are tied for 28th in penalty killing as they have successfully navigated 72.5% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Vegas, San Jose was bullied for the full 200 feet of the ice as fatigue combined with the talent disparity led to a one-sided beatdown. The Sharks were outshot 15-6 in the opening period of play and found themselves down 2-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play. In the second period, San Jose was outshot 13-8 though neither side lit the lamp, leaving the score 2-0 at the second intermission. The third period got no better for the Sharks as they were outshot by an 11-8 margin and outscored 3-0 to wind up with the blowout loss. Kaapo Kahkonen made 34 saves for San Jose, who were outshot 39-20, in the loss. Mackenzie Blackwood is expected to be between the pipes for this contest for the Sharks.
