San Francisco Giants vs. New York Yankees Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 3-30-2023

New York heads into another Opening Day hoping for a different outcome at the end of the season after losing to Houston in a four-game sweep in the ALCS. The Yankees will open the season on Thursday afternoon against San Francisco, which finished 81-81 last season. The Giants closed the season with 12 wins in their final 16 games, though.

San Francisco put together a historic season two years ago, winning 107 games and scoring 804 runs. The Giants went 81-81 last year though, scoring nearly 100 fewer runs (716) than 2021. They made a few offseason additions that they are hoping will pay dividends this year, including Michael Conforto and Mitch Haniger. Conforto missed last season recovering from right shoulder surgery after spending seven seasons with the Mets. He hit .232 with 14 home runs and 55 RBI in 2021, signing a two-year, $36 million contract in the offseason. Haniger signed a three-year, $43.5 million contract, but he is expected to miss this series with a Grade 1 oblique strain.

The Giants will also be without center fielder Austin Slater, who is expected to miss the entire month of April due to a hamstring injury. They were a disaster offensively last season, ranked No. 23 in the MLB in batting average (.234). This is not an easy opening assignment, as New York ranked third in the league in ERA (3.30) last year. Logan Webb is getting set to start the season opener for the second straight campaign. He went 11-3 in 2021 and 15-9 in 2022, posting a 2.90 ERA last year across a career-high 192.1 innings. Webb is getting set for his first career start against the Yankees after going 4-1 with a 2.96 ERA in his final five starts last year.
