San Francisco Giants vs. Miami Marlins Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-17-2023

The San Francisco Giants (5-9, 5-9 RL, 9-5 O/U) take on the Miami Marlins (8-8, 6-10 RL, 6-8-2 O/U) in the first of a three-game NL Series on Monday evening. The Giants will have Alex Wood on the mound. The Marlins will counter with Jesus Luzardo. The Giants went 4-3 against the Marlins last season.

The Giants will have Alex Wood on the mound. Wood had trouble in his first outing, conceding three runs (one earned) in only three innings against the White Sox in a game the Giants won 16-6. Next, he was stellar, completing 4.2 shutout innings against the Dodgers, allowing just one base hit. The veteran left-hander doesn’t pitch deep into games but is still valuable. While he posted a 5.24 ERA last year his WHIP was above average at 1.24. Wood has great numbers in his career against the Marlins, going 8-4 with a stellar 2.55 ERA in 95.1  innings.

The Giants are in the middle of a six-game road trek. They have only won two series all season and it’s been a bit of a discouraging opening three weeks. The pitching struggled in a series loss to the Dodgers last week and dropped another series against the Tigers on the weekend. The bullpen has already been an issue, ranking 28th.

Michael Conforto is a player the Giants need to have a big season at the plate. The veteran outfielder is producing, clubbing three homers with six RBIs and an .812 OPS. Conforto was outstanding against the Fish last season, posting three homers with nine RBIs and an .861 OPS. Joc Pederson remains on the IL.

San Francisco is producing offense, even in the losses, and is now averaging 4.93 runs per game, ranking them 13th. The pitching staff has recorded a 4.37 team ERA, placing them 15th.
