San Francisco Giants vs. Chicago Cubs Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-10-2022

The San Francisco Giants (65-73, 62-75 RL, 67-62-8 O/U) battle the Chicago Cubs (59-80, 69-68 RL, 59-67-11 O/U) in the second of a three-game series on Saturday afternoon. The Giants will have Logan Webb on the hill. The Cubs reply with Marcus Stroman. The Giants lead the season series 3-2 after the Cubs won Friday's opener 4-2.

Logan Webb will make his 29th start of the season on Saturday. Webb resumed his fine work last time out, holding the Dodgers to only three runs (two earned) in six innings, and was awarded the win. The veteran left-hander has been dominant, allowing a total of only three runs in his last three performances, and is sporting a 2.89 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP accompanied by a 12-8 record in 171 innings of work. Webb conceded five runs (three earned) in six innings in his only career meeting against the Cubs. 

San Francisco continues an eight-game road trip. They lost two of three against the Dodgers and were dealt losses in games one and two of Thursday’s doubleheader in Milwaukee. The Giants have lost four consecutive road series and are 4-6 in their last ten games overall. 

Mike Yastrzemski is in a groove, sporting a remarkable 1.01 OPS so far this month. The 32-year-old center fielder is having a mediocre season, clubbing 12 homers with 45 RBIs and a .688 OPS. Yastrzemski is only 2 for 12 with zero RBIs against the Cubs this season.

The Giants are scoring an average of 4.43 runs per game, ranking them 14th overall. The pitching staff enters with a 3.92 team ERA, placing them 17th in the big leagues.
